Artist's Statement for Figurative Body of Work

The human figure is a thing of exquisite beauty and grace. Through very subtle changes of pose it can convey entirely different emotions, both passionate and sublime. through my sculptural work I use the human form to express the joy of life, harmony, and serenity.

I use a classical realistic style to capture the graceful movement of the pose and emphasize the rounded organic forms. I sculpt in wet clay or plasticine over a wire armature using a live model as reference. When my creation is complete and I feel satisfied that I have expressed the mood I intended, I take it to a foundry to be cast in bronze.

My work reveals the soul of the being reflected through the simplicity and purity of the human body, which is something we all possess but do not always appreciate. I often idealize the body as it is the dwelling place of the soul and the soul in its essence is beautiful. My goal is to expose the positive spiritual qualities present in all of us.
