BIOGRAPHY

An artist all her life, Cinthia Joyce is a prolific sculptor and oil painter.  She embraces both representational and abstract approaches to express her design concepts.

She grew up in Malibu, and now lives in Manhattan Beach, CA.  She is married and has two grown children. As a child she and her five brothers and sisters had plenty of opportunity to enjoy country life, including their horses and many odd pets. She finds animals fascinating and they make up a large part of her work. She honors the animal kingdom with awe and respect for their unique souls.

Her work is a celebration of  the nobility of humankind, revealing of the beauty of the human body and spirit.  Classical figurative subjects are a perfect forum for her passionate interest in human anatomy.  As in her 7 1/2′ high “Atlas Uplifting the Cosmos” the fluid, dynamic forms of her bronze sculptural work elegantly capture precise moments in time. He seems to be in constant motion, striding purposefully through space.  Dramatic textures contrast against smooth areas and create a play of light and shadow to direct the eye to explore dynamic pathways through each creation.

Her commissioned works include a 13′ high monument, Pacific Gray Whale in front of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.   She created the “Noble Spirit” Dee Hardison Award, Shakespeare Award, Mercury Theater Award and In the Spirit of Beauty/Making a Difference Award for the Daily Breeze (Torrance, CA) newspaper , all commissions for noted performers, celebrities and dignitaries by the Torrance Performing Arts Consortium. Light of Truth, the Striving for Excellence Award trophy for Minorities Broadcasting Training Program.  The first version of Atlas was a commission for a private collector.  That one of a kind piece was the launching point for the version Atlas Uplifting the Cosmos, which is a more physically revealing work.

She has won numerous awards in national juried exhibitions such as the Academic Artists Association, 51st National Exhibition of Contemporary Realism, Hilton Head Art League National Juried Show, Art of the New West, Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibit, and is represented by the highly esteemed Lagerquist Gallery in Atlanta.

Cinthia Joyce has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UCLA where she majored in Art History, and credits her extensive travels to Europe,  Russia and the Caribbean as an ongoing influence on her work.  She has studied under such master sculptors as Christopher Slatoff, Richard MacDonald, John Coleman, Lincoln Fox, and Sandy Scott, and painters Ignat Ignatov, Vadim Zang, Kim English, and anatomist Rey Bustos.  She teaches figurative sculpture workshops and lectures on the bronzing process.
